Visible Ink is an established television production company focused on developing comedy television programmes and series. In order to exploit international broadcast potential with new content, Martin Fisher, the Managing Director, wished to develop co-production partnerships with companies across Europe who could also provide access to the broadcasters in their home nations. Key to a successful co-production partnership however is a match between management styles and sense of humours as well a marriage of technical and commercial skills. Enterprise Europe Scotland worked with the company to prepare a detailed Cooperation Profile on their company outlining their skills and ethos and specifying the type of partnership they would like to forge.
As well as promoting the profile generally into Europe through the Enterprise Europe Network, it was key to target key Clusters in the Digital Media arena. Visible Ink is a regular attendee at the largest television production and broadcast fairs, Miptv and Mipcom, in Cannes each year. Enterprise Europe Scotland therefore worked with UKTI and Scottish Development International to support their stand presence at these shows, by offering Visible Ink and the other Scottish exhibitors, the chance to profile and promote their expertise and partnership needs. By connecting with their local office in the South of France, Enterprise Europe Scotland was able to connect the companies into the Digital Media Cluster in the region to set up meetings at Miptv and Mipcom.
"It was a simple and very effective exercise," comments Martin Fisher of Visible Ink. "Through Lucy Black's efforts we held 4 very interesting meetings at Miptv in 2009 with both television and film production companies. We recognised an immediate attraction with one of these companies, sharing creative synergies and critically a sense of direction and humour. Following our initial introduction, we quickly set up a series of meetings with one particular company in Cannes, Paris and Edinburgh to progress discussions for co-productions. As the two companies we are now working together to present our ideas to broadcasters in the UK, France and Arab countries. We have every intention to progress the partnership.
