Warning - Scam EU Funding Letter

07/02/2017

A scam letter has been received by a number of UK organisations, suggesting that the recipient is the beneficiary of a large grant from the EU. In one example, a company was notified of a €1.8m from the EU for “Small and Medium Business Enterprise, Academic and Research activities”. The letter used a fake letterhead from the European Commission representative office in Denmark and is signed by a “Gunars Culkstens – Head of Concessions, Business Grants & Intervention Funds”. It asks the recipient to contact a consultant based in Denmark, referred to as an “EU Approved Financial Intermediary Agency”.

The letter is amateurish and uses home-made EU terminology, however, we wanted to share this message for your awareness and as a reminder to be vigilant. Scotland Europa and Enterprise Europe Network Scotland have notified the European Commission’s office in Denmark about this scam, as their corporate identity has been misused.

Affected companies, or other organisations, should not take any action in response to the letter, but rather notify richard.buxbaum@scotent.co.uk.
